55-piece Alberta Symphony Orchestra celebrates Canada Sesquicentennial presenting “Tribute to Glenn Gould” in partnership with Toronto Symphony Orchestra – Canada Mosaic.

Renowned world-wide as one of the most incredible Canadian artists in history, Glenn Gould’s enduring legacy as an extraordinary musician continues to see him held in the highest esteem around the world. As an international superstar who brought international attention to Canada, this is a fitting way to celebrate Canada’s Sesquicentennial.
2017 is a year of many Gould anniversaries including the 85th anniversary of his birth, the 35th anniversary of his death, the 70th anniversary of his first performance with the Toronto Symphony and many other important moments in his life and career.

This concert will be scripted and hosted to take the audience on a journey of remembrance incorporating works that Gould notably performed, such as Beethoven’s Emperor Piano Concerto. In addition, the concert led by pianist and conductor, ASO Music Director Emilio De Mercato, features a new commission by Canadian composer Kelly-Marie Murphy inspired by Gould, and the New World Symphony by Dvorak, the monumental work inspired by American sounds and landscapes. A true celebration of the beauty and colors of our land.
